We took the 2 hour express train, bus and cable car mini-voyage to the most peaceful spot in Japan we've found thus far! And that's saying a lot, too. It is a primeval forest hidden on a mountain top far above the bustling noises of civilization, and has been a famous relaxation retreat for over a millenia. Thoroughly recommend this spot, which we found thanks to our friends wedding being held here last year. Also the scene from 'The Last Samurai' where Tom is captured and led to the mountain fiefdom of the real last Samurai of that time. Absolutely gorgeous place. Most beautiful and biggest trees we have seen.. wow..
